Crossing the line I have removed cyra512 art from website and as a member of eBay's Kats. cyra512 is wonderful artist she started selling on eBay back 05. I fell in love with her work. her sales were slow but I knew she had it. Her art looked like a number of artists. She needed to "develope a hook." That's what we call it a style or subject the buyers can associate your art with. I open a groups for cat artists and invited cyra512. As the months went buy I checked on her as I did all my artists. I notice her work was evolving and was looking more like gabycat74 work. Gabycat74 has been selling on eBay since 03. She was one of the first artist to hit several hundred dollars for a tiny aceo. Her art style had push her up to the top as a power seller. It would be hard to find an eBay artist that does not know the work of Gabycat74. Buyers that couldn't effort gabycat74 work, were buying cyra512 work . Gabycat74 sales had begun to dip a tiny bit. Cyra512 was creating more mermaid art and getting good bids soon to push her into power seller. When she made power seller I was very happy for her I email my congratulation. The hoildays came I was going over eBay listing. I pulled up a listing, thinking it was another of gabcat74 work. I felt a wave of shock as I realised it was cyra512 work. I remember reasoning it was that time of year many others were using the very same subject matter. They just didn't have a style so very much like Gaby. Gaby had lost herPower seller ranking. A style of art know all over eBay as gabycat74 had been taken by cyra512. Did it stop with the holiday's no. That's why I'm stepping forward. Buyers are now under the impression this is cyra512 brain child her hook. It most certainly is not. Long before cyra512 ever started selling on eBay gabycat74 was creating this wonderful art style. Cyra512 is a massive talent but she is using to this day another artist ideas.

Editoral by Angela Cockburn eBay ID Angelacmoore LINK Artists copyright information by Angela Cockburn for Yancey © 2008 The formal stuff Unless otherwise stated, all images on this site are copyright and may not be reproduced either in whole or in part without the express permission in writing of the artist or photographer. They may not be downloaded, printed out or distributed in any form without such permission. Artists may be contacted *** give clear details here *** But I’ve bought the picture... ...but you haven’t bought the copyright. What you have bought is the physical artwork, along with the right to display it, enjoy it, show it to your friends, or stick it in a bank vault until the artist becomes famous and you can resell it for a fortune. But you haven’t bought the right to reproduce it, or copy it, or use the image on your drink coasters. Not unless the artist says you can. Although it’s up to the individual artist, most artists will happily give you permission to use their work for such personal things as illustrating a school project or a class assignment that is not for publication, putting a picture in your printed church newsletter, or decorating the invitations for your 50 birthday as long as the artist’s name, the name of the work, the date th te of the work and the copyright notice are all included. The © symbol is sufficient to show a work is copyright. That sort of information is often printed up the side of an illustration, in eight point where it is clearly visible but does not detract from your layout. Most artists will also be happy to give you permission to use an image of their work if you are reselling it, either online, or in a catalogue, for the purpose of advertising the sale. Once the sale has been finalised, any online image should be removed. Artists are less likely to give permission for their images to be used on your personal website, in your blog or on your Facebook page. This is not because they doubt your personal intentions, but because images are too easily downloaded and reused by unscrupulous or ignorant people. Artists may refuse permission, or require payment, if you wish to reproduce their work for commercial purposes. “Commercial” means any activity that makes money, even if it is only you selling a few items on eBay. As well as greeting cards, T-shirts and the like, this includes incorporating another artist’s work into collages or altered art of your own, or placing the images on jewellery or other items which are otherwise of your own design. Using only a part of their image does not change this. Payment, if requested, will be a royalty, which may take the form of single up-front payment, but is more likely to be a payment that reflects the sales that you make. For example, a royalty could be a percentage of sales, or it could take the form of $1.00 for every T-shirt sold. Note that you still haven’t bought the copyright, only the right to use the image. A royalty is Artists copyright information by Angela Cockburn for Yancey © 2008 defined as: “A payment made for the use of property, especially a patent, copyrighted work, franchise, or natural resource.” Source: http://www.investorwords.com/4330/royalty.html Make sure whatever agreement you come to is in writing and signed by both you and the artist, with one copy for each of you. Note that with photographs, if they show the image of a person which is recognizable, you also need the permission of that person in order to reproduce their image, except where that right has been waived - which is usually when professional models have been used (and paid). But all I want is a lion... I’ve just been to the zoo. I needed a lion. I was preparing some graphics for a South African client and wild-life figured large in the planned images. As there aren’t any wild lions in Sydney, Australia, of course I started with a Google image search. Plenty of lions there and plenty of ideas. But, as you’ll see if you look, those images are copyright. All eighteen on the first page of results have a copyright notice or a photographer’s attribution, if you dig around enough. Yes, even the two “borrowed” images on blog pages. Now the last thing I want is for my client to get sued for use of a copyright image. Or even to get into an argument about an image source. So my next move was to search through some sources for royalty free images that I could buy outright. Still not exactly what I wanted. So off to the zoo with my camera, where the lion very obligingly posed, (and so did the giraffes). Now I can do whatever I want with those images, since the copyright in them is mine. And if anyone does query my client (as one lion pic. can look very much like another) she can refute the challenge without any doubt. So if what you are after is an image of a particular thing, rather than the work of a particular artist, then grab your camera (or your paintbrushes) and see what you can create for yourself. I’m a lousy photographer, and I can’t paint. So where can I get images to use ? A Google search for “royalty free images” (use the quote marks) will find a good range of sites from which quality images can be bought in various formats, and at various prices. However, a favourite starting point of mine is: http://www.clipart.com Here are thousands of clipart images, as well as photos and a treasure house of vintage illustrations. They're always busy busy busy play-fighting with each other. They're both sweet and affectionate, but full of energy. Firecracker (on the left) is the more rambunctious of the two, and we've nicknamed him Dennis the Menace. Lightning (on the right) isvery cuddly and loves to snooze on a human's lap.
